The most promising alternatives to neoliberal capitalism and statist communism (among other undesirable options) is a society of worker-cooperatives. They’ve been around for centuries and prove to be effective in addressing countless social and economic problems, because from the very beginning, power and knowledge is distributed in each individual workplace: each worker wields one vote and each is a co-owner of the firm.
Coops have therefore been featured in many TED Talks; the movement is gaining momentum. (In fact, 2012 was declared the “year of cooperatives” by the United Nations).
